A sound of the born of our universe has been sustained still around us. And all existences on the planet resonance together with it. The exhibition of Ayumi Paul is the time and space itself where all the visitors and other existences resonances.

After the conversation started with her original idea, we created the folding to greet every visitor with her letter to them.

The Origata, a Japanese traditional folding art, was formed by nested two A4 papers folded in the same way, which layered each other like sound waves. Some texts on her exhibited works and dreams she had ware written.

It was the words written on the cover of Origata. The vibration of the tone, breathing, the folding spirit in and opening it out by unfolding. These sequences of rhythm itself resonated in the Museum. The Origata was a little universe of our nature ーlike a fetus in the uterus. At the cathedral, a part of the museum space, where “The Singing Project” was going on. There, all visitors’ breathings and voices were dissolving each other and vibrated the whole cathedral as sympathetic resonance.

太古から地球に響き続ける音と、そこに生きる全ての存在が同時に共鳴しあうこと。アーティストのあゆみパウルによる作品は、その場に存在する全ての存在者が共鳴する時空そのものである。
来場者を歓迎するような何かがほしいというアーティストの要望がまずあり、いくつかのやりとりの後、彼女の来場者への手紙を折形の形で手渡すことで展示空間に迎え入れる、というアイデアに着地した。折形には何も包まれていないのだが、折形自体には、展示作品について、また彼女が見た夢について自身の言葉が記されている。

これは、折形の表に書かれた言葉である。音の振幅、呼吸、霊を折り包む、折を開き解放する、そのリズム自体が、展示空間に共鳴することを意図し、展示空間の小宇宙のような象徴として折形が存在する。非常にシンプルな同形の折を入れ子にし、重ね合わせることで、呼吸のような素朴な営み一つ一つの、響きが重なり合うことで現れる共鳴の美を、視覚的に表現することを試みた。

美術館の一部である大聖堂において、来場者は彼女の作品「The Singing Project」の一部となる。そこでは全ての参加者の呼吸や声が空間に溶け合い、一つの大きな響きとして大聖堂を共鳴させ、来場者を包みこむ。

Ayumi Paul
あゆみパウルの作品は、サイト・レスポンシブな演奏、作曲、祭祀、パフォーマンス、映像、インスタレーションで構成されている。彼女の概念的なアプローチの中で、「聴くこと」の可能性を深化・拡張するプロジェクトを作り出すために、そこに「在る」音は不可欠なものである。
