Tatete – Japanese for “make it stand!” – is a massive brass object designed by The Simple Society and produced by JUKO, the new product line of an industrial brass factory in Gifu prefecture, Japan. Every Tatete is forged from a single piece of brass. Since the surface is not treated with any coating the colour of the brass will change from “pure gold” to darker and darker tones. It might even turn bright green from verdigris, or, if you prefer to polish it “shiny pure gold” again.

シンプル組合が立ち上げた真鍮鍛造ブランド「重光」の第一弾プロダクト「たてて」。小さくてもMサイズの方はほぼ1kgあるため、一般的なビニール傘など様々なものを立てる事ができる。また、直角に立てられる面があるため、向きを変えてブックエンドのような使い方もできる。「お香立て」「傘立て」などではなく「たてて」という名前にしたことで、使い手の想像力をかきたてる心理的な効果を狙った。
仏具などで一般的な手法である鋳造（砂型に流し込んで成形）と違い、鍛造工業製品の多くは、熱した材料を、上下から金槌ではなく金型で一瞬のうちに強い圧力で叩くことで成形する。型に材料を流し込んで作る鋳造よりも鍛造製品の方が、水やガス等の高圧への耐久性が高いため、水道管のバルブや、ガスのコックの部品などによく見られる。「たてて」が製造された岐阜中津川の工場でも、こうした真鍮（黄銅）鍛造部品を中心に製造している。
「重光」は「重工業」でもあり、工業真鍮製品特有の「重厚な光」でもある。工場で見つけた宝物のようなオブジェクトとして「たてて」は誕生した。
